Old is the New Green: The study, called “The Greenest Building: Quantifying the Environmental Value of Building Reuse,” was done by the Seattle-based sustainability think tank Preservation Green Lab, an offshoot of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Even if the new stuff (building) is significantly more energy efficient than the existing stock, it will take decades to recover the initial environmental costs of building it all.

We don’t have that kind of time.
